If you are interested in the sorts of things I am and would like to work in my lab, please contact me by email. I look forward to hearing from you!

Currently I am especially interested in hearing from undergraduate students who have interests (and skills) in both computer science and biology. If this is you, please contact me.

Undergraduate Opportunities

Are you interested in gaining research experience? I am looking for enthusiastic and committed undergraduates to collaborate with me on research projects that involve the study of aphid ecology, life history and performance under different ecological conditions and environmental stresses.

If you are interested in attending graduate school or working in a research setting, this is a great opportunity for you to gain practical lab experience and participate in an ongoing research program. I am looking for students who are quick to learn, motivated, detail orientated and reliable. Previous lab experience is not essential; however, enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn new skills and show initiative are required.

Graduate Opportunities

If you are interested in graduate research on aphid genetics and genome evolution or the population biology and ecology of organisms with complex life cycles, then please read the note below and then email me.

Note to prospective students:

It is exciting that I am receiving enquiries about graduate opportunities in my lab. If you are interested in working in my lab and are about to send me your first email, I encourage you to do the following:

  1. Include with your email a comprehensive CV. Your CV should include details of your educational background (including grades), research experience, publications, GRE (and TOEFL) scores, as well as a list of any oral presentations and awards you have received and the email addresses and telephone numbers of two-three referees.
  2. You should also describe your research interests.

AND IF YOU HAVE SOME IDEAS ABOUT THE SORT OF RESEARCH YOU WOULD LIKE TO PURSUE then please present me with a brief research proposal outlining the research you would like to do as a graduate student in my lab. This research proposal should include suggestions of the biological system you would like to work with as well as the sorts of questions you are interested in addressing with that system.

Finally, please contact me and discuss the possibility of working in my lab prior to submitting your application to the graduate program at UM.
