COASTAL MONITORING IN SOUTH FLORIDA


This web site maintains a long-term database of coastal monitoring information collected by University of Miami undergraduate students since 1990.  The information collected focuses on the status of coastal natural communities in protected areas of South Florida.  The community assessments contain both a qualitative reconnaissance survey and quantitative plot data.


 

WEB SITE OBJECTIVES

 

To disseminate information about long-term monitoring of mangrove, seagrass and rocky intertidal communities in south Florida protected areas

To allow year-to-year and spatial comparisons on mangrove communities using standardize community assessment methods and assessment methods

To compile information on associated fauna of mangrove areas and look at variability over time and with disturbances in fauna inventories

To serve as a learning resource for marine education and environmental awareness
