These posted notes are not a substitute for attending class or reading the textbook! A great deal is said in class that never makes it to this "electronic blackboard", and if you're not present, you'll miss it.

  • Lecture 1 - What is an Animal?
  • Lecture 2 - The Evolution of Evolutionary Thought
  • Lecture 3 - A Brief Foray into the Wonderful World of Genes
  • Lecture 4 - Evidence for Evolution

Exam I will be given on Wednesday, September 20 during class. It will cover all material in Lectures 1 - 4. (Please note the change from what I said in lecture: ALL of Lecture 4 will be covered on Exam I, since there's very little beyond what I originally told you to study.)

If the suspense is driving you crazy, you can download a Sample Exam just to get an idea of what you might expect in terms of how I ask questions. Don't use it as a study guide. It's just a sample.

Here's a general STUDY GUIDE to help you through your notes.

  • Lecture 5a - Macroevolution
  • Lecture 5 - An Introduction to Ecosystems
  • Lecture 6 - Biomes
  • Lecture 7 - Organismal, Population and Community Ecology
  • Lecture 8 - Ecosystem Ecology

Exam II will be given on Wednesday, October 18 during class. It will cover all material in Lectures 5a - 8. Here is the STUDY GUIDE.
Look it over and bring it with you to the REVIEW SESSION at 5:00pm in room 126 on Tuesday, October 17. Come prepared with questions.

  • Lecture 12 - The Lophotrochozoans
  • Lecture 13 - The Ecdysozoans

Exam III will be given on Monday, November 20 in class. It will cover material from Lectures 9 - 14, plus the bat video.
    Here's the Study Guide.

  • FINAL EXAM - Tuesday, December 12 at 2:00pm in room 126. About 60% of the exam will be cumulative, and 40% will be on the last lectures, since Exam III. Lecture 18 and a special presentation will be the extra credit opportunity on Monday. See the notes in Lecture 17 to see what will be covered on the exam, and what won't be.

Here's the last Study Guide. Come prepared with questions to the review session on Monday at 3:35pm in room 126!
