Undergraduate Degrees

The Department of Biology offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and a Biology minor.

Most premedical, predental, and preveterinary students, as well as those students wishing to attend graduate school in the biological sciences, take the B.S. program, which is broad enough to prepare students well for professional schools and professional careers.

Consider entering the Honors in Biology Program, as it gives you an opportunity to work closely with a faculty member and to accomplish your own original research. In the honors program, you will also have the opportunity to participate in Honors Seminars, in which you can discuss your own research and that of your peers.

If you are a premedical student, do register with The University of Miami's Office of Premedical Studies. The Office of Premedical Studies is located in 205 Ashe (305-284-5176). The director, Linette Aguiar (premed@miami.edu), and her staff will help you complete the proper steps so that you can maximize your chances of gaining admission to medical or to other health-related professional schools. They will work with you, your advisor, and members of the UM Pre-health Professional Committee throughout and after your undergraduate career.
