So
we purchased a tipi of our own and headed off for adventure. The
first time we set up our new lodge was at a rendezvous in Ruidoso New Mexico.
Yep, we hauled tipi, poles and ourselves across the country. We attended
the first southern rocky mountain rendezvous. As it turned out, it
was also the last southern rocky mountain rendezvous. The organizers
lost a lot of money on it. But, we didn't know that at the time and
we pulled in and set up camp. Beautiful location. Tam got her
cooking stuff together and I had to chop some firewood.
What they didn't tell us was that the firewood provided
wasn't aged. It was newly cut.
Apache indians were contracted to supply the wood. Revenge!! Try
to get a fire going with that. We scavenged around and got enough
to use during our week there. Lots of shooting, tomahawk throwing,
shopping, and general good times.
We met many fellow buckskinners. It was an experience actually camping out west where it all took place originally. I caught a few snakes which I released unharmed but brought a box turtle home I rescued in Texas.
