MDCC Faculty Fellowship

Description

For many students in Dade County, Miami-Dade Community College is a great opportunity for continuing their education in the science. MDCC faculty have an important role in sustaining student interest in the sciences. MDCC faculty have the potential to encourage many students to pursue a career in science. Yet these teachers often have a heavy teaching load and do not have the time to pursue research and interact with other researchers. At the University of Miami, we recognize the important function community college teachers serve and we have designed the Faculty Fellowship Program to ensure that these teachers can remain current in their field and convey the excitement they feel for science to their students. Each year a faculty member from MDCC is teamed with a faculty member from UM's Department of Biology. MDCC faculty fellows spend a semester at the University of Miami learning new techniques and doing research. Following this semester, the Community College Fellow is awarded an equipment grant to continue their research activities after returning to MDCC. We invite you to look at the work from previous fellows in this program and see how you can apply.
