At
Emelia Earhart PArk in Hialeah, one of the ponds is used for remote
control boat races. The boats can go 50 to over 60 mph
depending on the type. They were so fun to watch. I saw
several crashes, including one crash where the boat went onto land. The
boat was making a turn that the controller obviously thought
it could make without hitting the shore, but it could not. The boat hit
the reeds along the shore, ramped out of the
water, and landed upside down a few feet from where I was
sitting. Unfortunately I did not get a good photo of the wreck.
The boats were powered by
a small 2-stroke engine connected to a prop with 1-inch long
blades. The boat is controlled by a large rudder at the back
of the boat. At times the only part of the boat that was touch
the water was the propellar and rudder.
The
boats has some incredible acceleration and could throw a 20-30 ft long
rooster. |
