RESEARCH
INTERESTS
I am interested in the
social behavior and behavioral ecology of animals, particularly
birds.
My favorite topics include mating systems, sexual selection,
reproductive
strategies, and parental care. Currently I am studying the mating
system of wild Muscovy ducks in the Pantanal of Brazil and sperm
competition
in captive wild-type Muscovy ducks at the Smithsonian Conservation
&
Research Center in Front Royal, Virginia (see below).
BACKGROUND
I have an undergraduate
degree in biology and spent 3 years working and traveling before
starting
graduate school. Click below for information on my background, plus

DISSERTATION
TOPIC
The title of my dissertation
is "Promiscuity and sperm competition in Muscovy ducks (Cairina
moschata)."
The project has two components - one in the field in Brazil and one in
captivity in Virginia. Both components involve follow-up in the
lab
at the University of Miami.
