The Pantanal is a seasonally
inundated floodplain in west central Brazil, along the border with Bolivia
and Paraguay. It has been billed as the largest freshwater wetland
in the world and boasts the greatest concentration of wildlife in the Americas.
Most of the land is privately owned, and the dominant industries are cattle
ranching and ecotourism. Because the Pantanal is located at the convergence
of major South American biomes, and because of the open landscape, wildlife
viewing is spectacular.
